    Lets talk about Dozer (Shield Guy) and his shield.

    I mostly play Dozer because I think both him and Irish are the only characters that don't have obnoxious voices and both visually look good.

    As I progress towards the T1 badge for shield bashing, the experience has given a lot of cause for thought. The utility of the shield is so bizarrely out of step for the game itself as well as comparatively to the other specialist gadgets/abilities in general.

    These are the pros of the shield:

    • 1 hit kills
    • Invulnerable to all frontal attacks unless shot at the feet
    • Very good distraction tool to take fire from enemies while your team cleans up
    • Good goofy fun

    These are the negatives of the shield:

    • Deflected small arms fire is so weak it may as well not exist
    • Movespeed is reduced dramatically
    • Turn rate speed is capped and looks incredibly janky
    • Reduced situational awareness
    • Has almost no solo utility unless in tight corridors or against total idiots
    • Is incredibly easy to flank
    • Feet can easily be shot
    • Is heavily reliant on server quality as player first person view port can be out of step with third person player model resulting in a lot of "I just got shot right through my shield when crouching" moments
    • The bash is incredibly inconsistent and frequently whiffs right through people

    Aside from the inconsistent bash behaviour and the janky turning with the shield I don't mind these drawbacks, however I would like to see some changes to bring him in-line with the other specialists without making him obnoxious like Sundance or Boris.

    Some simple changes could be:

    • Remove the turn rate cap
      • I don't think this is necessary because of how easy it is to flank a Dozer in 90% of gameplay scenarios. If you're engaged with one coming at you with a shield, there's still 63 other people on your team that can just shoot him in the side. Him being able to turn at a normal rate won't make much of a difference. Especially seen as you can already just shoot his feet or lob C5 over him.
    • Change however DICE has made the shield bash hitboxes work
      • I don't know how its working under the hood but I feel like it needs to be reworked. There needs to be consistency with it simple as that.
    • Remove small arms deflection entirely and instead make the flash charge on the front of his shield actually usable.
      • I don't know why it isn't usable already, but a flash charge to disorient people he's charging at will make a huge difference in being able to use it as a pressure tool for clearing out areas of objectives.
    • Purely superficial but add a much louder shield bash noise and some screen shake when you hit someone.
      • Cmon, feels like I'm just love tapping these people and they somehow die? Does the front of the shield have the power of the devil on it?
    • Probably asking too much, but a toggle between the flash charge and an EMP blast to disable vehicles.
      • Hey, Sundance has a cluster grenade, EMP grenade and an Anti-Armor auto homing grenade with a 2 kilometer range. Why can't I chase a tank with my shield to EMP blast it then switch out and C5 it like a cool dude?

    I like this game quite a bit despite it's flaws but I think the specialist system is incredibly undercooked and a lot of specialists could use total reworks. Dozer is the one that I think needs the most attention first. I'm sure DICE is looking at player user data and game outcomes but I do hope they are considering changing things up entirely to improve the game for the future *cough*wingsuit should be a gadget not a specialist passive*cough*.

    How do I not suck at breakthrough?

    So, I usually play CQ, which is fine. I feel like I dont die that much, besides bad spawns and do ok enough.

    But in breakthrough? I mostly look at the screen waiting for rez. I feel like I move I get sniped/tank shelled or suddenly someone appearing behind me and if I stay in cover it's just bolte/heli fiesta. Every game I am well over 10-15 deaths with barely 15 frags at best (doesnt matter attack/def). So how do you play it? Just camp more, be more patient?

    Of course it isnt about KD - supplies, rezzing etc is more important, I played loads of BF games before, but this is more about actually staying alive and fragging others to get a chance to be any help to the team at all.
