This goes out to all the folks out there who are like me, who started playing Battlefield around the time of Battlefield 3 or Bad Company 2 or so, and have been loyal to the franchise ever since.

Earlier, in the BF2042 subreddit, I was made fun of for having the "audacity" to consider myself a Battlefield vet, simply because I "never even played BF2".

I started playing Battlefield in 2011. I was 12 years old. My friend at school told me that there was a free beta I could play on Xbox Live for a game called "Battlefield 3" and that it was "Wayyy better than Black Ops, dude!"

I became hooked. I got BF3 for Christmas that year, and ever since I have been a Battlefield fan, completely overtook my interest in Call of Duty.

Since then, I've bought every mainline game in the franchise. BF3, BF4, BF1, and BFV.

Yes, even Hardline. Which I did quite enjoy, actually.

After learning more about Battlefield back in the 2012/2013 days, I went back and played lots of Bad Company 2 once I got my hands on a copy of that. Played a lot of Rush on BC2.

In three days time, it will have been 10 full years since Battlefield 3 released.

I was 12 years old when I first picked up the series. I was in middle school. Now I'm 22, and about to graduate college.

From my young teens all the way to now, Battlefield's been with me every step of the way.

I consider myself a veteran. You should, too. Don't be afraid of the gatekeepers.

I suspect there's a lot of folks in the BF community who first played something like BF2, or 2142, when they were around 12 or 13, like myself. And now they too are long-time fans, young adults who've grown and matured alongside the release of the games.

But if you're someone out there who first started with Bad Company 2 back in 2010, BF3 in 2011 like me, or hell, even someone who started in 2013 with BF4, and have since kept up with the franchise in all its iterations, being a part of the community, enjoying the games– Know that you are indeed a veteran, too.
