Massive increase in concurrent player numbers after free release via PrimeGaming

I started tracking concurrent player numbers on PC in late October of this year (BF2, BF3, BF4, BFH). Since EA/DICE have made Battlefield 3 "freely" available via PrimeGaming, the game has seen a massive increase in concurrent player numbers (which more than doubled!).

I found it quite interesting and somewhat surprising to see how much of an impact the release via PrimeGaming had on the player numbers - would not have guessed so many jump back into a game from 2011.

    Concurrent player avg 20201031-20201130: 909.34

    Concurrent player avg 20201201-present: 2315.53

Graph showing concurrent player numbers for Battlefield 2, Battlefield 3, Battlefield 4 and Battlefield Hardline from Oct. 31st to Dec. 12th 2020

Weirdly terrible performance on decent PC

    Posted: 12 Dec 2020 03:09 PM PST

Hi everyone! Recently me and my brother started playing BF3 again, and despite having two similar laptops, the difference in performance is just appalling.
So here's the details of our laptops:
    Mine:
    i5-8520u, 4 cores, 8 threads, up to 3,4 GHz
    Nvidia MX150, 2GB dedicated memory
    8 GB RAM

    My brother's:
    i7-8550u, 4 cores, 8 threads, up to 3,8 GHz
    Nvidia MX150, 4GB dedicated memory
    12 GB RAM

If we set the graphics setting to auto, we get recommended the same thing: Ultra textures, everything else on medium, NO anti-aliasing and motion blur, 4x anisotropic, and SSAO.
Yet his laptop can comfortably stay at 60 fps with these settings, while mine barely reaches 30, even by setting everything to low, and 720p resolution. (also yes, I have the latest drivers).

Now I get that having 2 more Gigabytes of VRAM makes a big difference, and that this game wasn't really meant for laptops, but it's still a 2011 game, and I still meet the recommended requirements, so I would think I could at least run it on the lowest settings.

Anyways, I just wanted to ask if someone was experiencing similar problems, and if there's something I could do to get it to run more smoothly, except of course for buying new hardware.
    Thanks for any help!
