Battlefield cannot survive as a live service title. Posted: 03 Jan 2022 02:54 PM PST I know many people prefer the games as a service experience, how all content is free post launch. But I fully believe this has not been a good direction for the battlefield series. Yes content might be free but there is nothing guaranteeing the quality or quantity of said content being introduced. With paid expansions EA/Dice had an obligation to launch an Expansion with multiple maps, Weapons and vehicles/Gadgets, On standard we'd get 5-6 weapons 3-4 maps and 2-3 vehicles or gadgets, yes this content was a paid expansion but you at least got your moneys worth out of it with a plentiful amount of content to play with. Versus what we have seen with the Live service model in BF amounts of content is seemingly completely random, You may get a update with 2-3 maps, you may get a update with a handful of new weapons or vehicles, The only meaningful live service update was the war for the pacific and that one added an entirely new geographical location and two new factions. and so far for BF2042 it's not looking any better since we've only heard about the ridge map coming in spring 3-4 months from now. But the biggest blow by far to a live service is EA's willingness to kill it if the game isn't meeting expectations, They have already shown in BFV they are willing to completely cut all content for the game if it is not making the amount of money they want it to, they are not obliged to meet any DLC quota or quantity they are only obliged to release the first year of content since they've already sold a year 1 pass and than run with the money, with the Expansions/Premium system EA was legally obliged to release at least 4 expansion sized DLC's for a game with at least $15-20 worth of content. Everyone talks about how good BF4 is now with all the Fixes and Expansions fully released, But Imagine if BF4 was a Live service title, I doubt the game would have as much praise as it does now as it probably wouldn't have half the content and EA would have abandoned it the first chance they got in favor of a non broken game they could Monetize, Battlefield 4 only became the game it did because EA/Dice was Obliged to fix it due to the Premium pass. The sad reality is with the live service model EA has no Obligation to continue support of the game past what they promised, and even than there is nothing promised besides "a year of free content updates", Without a legal binding forcing EA to fund post launch content they will do a half assed job and abandon the game as soon as they can. Basically as long as Battlefield stays a Live service series the games will not get better they will only get worse as they launch a buggy mess than spend the first half of their life being fixed and the second half receiving mediocre small content updates until finally being thrown away by EA when they have determined that their Obligation to giving players content has been fulfilled and they can than move on to a more profitable project. I would much rather pay for my content updates and have a guarantee of the quality and quantity of the content I'm receiving, that EA is Obliged to deliver instead of running out the first chance they get rather than what we have seen under Battlefield as a live service. Posted: 04 Jan 2022 02:55 AM PST Last time I played it few weeks ago I spent hours playing portal cause it was actually fun unlike conquest and spent hours in the mode to realise it didn't count towards weapon xp/unlocks. Was a massive rip in the Undies to feel like it was a waste of time [link] [comments] |
