Battlefield 3 PC Co-op bug fix?

Hi guys, I've run into a roadblock with co-op when trying to play with my friend. Firstly, battlelog says there's no friends online so we can't invite each other (did that ever work/does it work for you guys?), but we worked around that last week by matchmaking the same mission and difficulty. It would usually only take about 10 seconds or so to find eachother.

But for the last few days we've tried this the matchmaking just hangs on "waiting for teammate to join." Has anybody experienced this before and overcame either of these issues? We can both join multiplayer servers as of now, it's just the co-op that's bugged for us.

When I google this nobody seems to have a clearcut solution, but people are still bumping old threads on ea answers on this issue, although they only get the thread closed by mods for necroing, so it must still be a somewhat common problem.
