[BF3] A Deep Dive: Why does Battlefield 3 feel so good to play? Posted: 23 May 2020 08:52 PM PDT I fired up Battlefield 3 again after quite a few years away. Even though my nostalgia glasses are fully on, I think there's quite a few things I noticed about why this game just feels so damn good to play.
Tanks in this game are DEADLY in the right hands. But they also have to respect players with RPGs and SMAWs. The battle between engineers and other vehicles in this game feel SO GOOD. Helicopters are arguably way too strong when you get a try-hard pilot, but it never quite feels like their focus is 100% on destroying foot soldiers. They have to always keep an eye out for jets and other helicopters. APCs get my heart pumping every time I see one as infantry.
I'm not sure how to quantify this one. Shooting an AK-74 vs an M16 vs an M249 all feel completely different, but equally satisfying depending on what play-style I'm resonating with at the moment. The bullets have weight, the recoil patterns feel right. The sound design is absolutely spot on. Aside from just the shooting mechanics, just sprinting and jumping around the map is a joy. Sometimes you have to continuously spawn 100+m away from where the action is, but running up to it never feels like a chore. I'm not sure why this is. Perhaps it's also related to the next thing I noticed.
Every map I played felt intelligent. Capture points where all built to focus combat in areas that felt completely organic. They thought out what the map control looked like if your team controlled 4 or 5 points, 1 of 5 points, or it was a hard fought evenly weighted battle over map control. If you're hard capped, for the most part, there were flanking routes built in that let you back cap. If the entire server was focused on capturing C, there were such smart routes that led to high-risk, high-reward flanks to suddenly give your team a huge surge in momentum. Your actions and game-sense felt like they had a real impact on your team's success.
This one might be controversial, but the revive mechanics helped me be a better team player, and it kept the battles raging. The instant revives made playing as a medic absolutely thrilling. Jumping through hectic lanes of fire in Grand Bazaar to try to revive my teammates that were mowed down by bipod pros as grenades are exploding everywhere around me. Knowing that even though this is a literally choke point meat grinder situation, if I keep reviving my team and tossing grenades the other direction, we can break through. When you're on the receiving end of a revive, the slow rise with the pistol in your hand as bullets are whirring by you felt urgent. Yes, it's annoying when you're continuously revived just to die over and over and over. Don't be that guy/gal.
The soldiers yelling, the explosions, the sound rockets make as they fly by you, the tank sounds. The atmosphere in this game has never been matched by any game I've played since.
Is the suppression a bit much? – maybe? Hear me out. The suppression makes you pick smarter fights. Once you're under fire, shit sucks. If you have cover to take a moment for your accuracy to recover, you can pop out and pre-fire right back. Fights are about who balances the right opportunities to be aggressive. Laying down covering fire is a real strategy to gain ground for your team through choke points. Battles feel intense. Vehicle fire feels intense. Anyways, I'm just waxing poetic. I don't think I've ever had as much fun and enjoyment from a Battlefield game as Battlefield 3. What aspects of the game resonate with you? [link] [comments]

[BF4] Are DLC or core maps more active? Posted: 24 May 2020 12:47 AM PDT My friends and I are thinking of getting into BF4 with the current origin sale but I'm wondering if we should stick with the vanilla which is like $6 or spend $28 on the premium edition. My main concern is whether the servers that are currently active have the core maps on rotation, or are most of them playing the DLC ones? [link] [comments]
[Other] Decline of the franchise and Battlefield 2143 Posted: 24 May 2020 07:19 AM PDT Just now coming back to the Battlefield Reddit after a few years to claim I was right. Since my posts hyping the then to be announced BF 2018 we've seen the decline of the franchise and two lackluster Battlefield titles. We've had revisionist Battlefield 1 with copy and paste variants of weapons and less content than BF4. Not to mention the only interesting guns being behind obnoxiously long class ranks to pad out the content/ playtime. Only played three hours of it before switching back to BF4. We've had Battlefield V which decided to do the live service thing and not follow through on it so we've got a WW2 Battlefield game that only has the first years of the war in basically. I've put in two hundred hours since release under the impression we would have post launch content covering the entire war. Imagine seeing Stalingrad in Frostbite or storming the Reichstag in the Battle of Berlin. Been hyped for 2143 for years ever since the Battlefield 3 Easter egg on the Endgame DLC but have been crushed year after year. A 2143 could have as much content as BF4 due to creative freedom and feel like BF4 with the movement and gameplay improvements of newer Battlefields. In my mind 2143 is the only way to save the franchise as Modern would be boring again and people only want it because they assume its the only period that would work really well for that classic Battlefield gameplay. So overall next Battlefield needs to be 2143 with as much effort put into it as BF4 and a premium service too so we can actually get 5 dlc packs with 4 maps each/ weapons, gadgets and vehicles after launch. If DICE and EA be lazy and play it safe with Modern again they could kill the franchise due to fatigue of the modern setting which would sink in quick when people who want the setting realise they can't improve upon Battlefield 4. Only possible way the could get away with modern again is to do old school modern (70's to 90's) for that aesthetic and retro modern vibe. For those who want BC3, we do deserve a sequel to Bad Company at some point just after 2143 since again modern fatigue and Bad Company is the infantry focused spin off series not mainline which wouldn't help the series right now. So yeah, I feel like if we had 2143 in place of Battlefield 1 the franchise might be in a better state by now and we would of received a Battlefield V with some actual development time put into it. Although casuals did love Battlefield 1 and may have rejected a 2143. Let me know what era you want to see the next Battlefield to be set in and if its not 2143 I'll try to sway you on it lol. [BF4] Do people still play battlefield 4 in 2020? Posted: 23 May 2020 06:02 PM PDT I want to know because its on sale for 5$. Any help would be appreciated EDIT: Thanks to all the people that helped me, I got the game and I can see that they are still lots of players playing. I will keep this post up for anyone who has the same question as me. [link] [comments]
[Other] What player count do you see before joining a server Posted: 24 May 2020 02:09 AM PDT When players go into the Server Browser and see that the server is 30 or more players in a 64 player server they join. Full servers with a queue. Players would wait in a queue for along time to get into a match potentially wasting time, and instead can go to other servers that don't have a queue but decently populated. Anything under 30 players, they are less hesitant to join. Anything under 10 players, they are even less hesitant to join. Between 1-4, even less players will join and they are worried it won't get populated quickly enough or not populated at all. What player counts do you go for when joining a server? Why are you hesitant to join low player count servers (which will eventually populate a lot of players)? [link] [comments]

[BF4] Unpopular Opinion: Battlefield 4 is Overrated Posted: 24 May 2020 03:36 AM PDT I just don't get the excitement around the game. Modern settings themselves are awesome, but it just wasn't enjoyable for me in Battlefield 4. The graphics were AWESOME for it's time. I only have two complaints, but firstly, the GOOD THINGS about the game. The customization was really nice. It's what made the game playable for longer periods of time. More customization = More gameplay options. The graphics were really nice as well. The FREEDOM in the game was wonderful as well, and I really hope Battlefield 6 takes it to the next level. The complaints = Gameplay. The gameplay just feels very clunky and unsatisfying to me (except the sniping, sniping is VERY satisfying.) It just wasn't for me, and made me quit the game a large amount of times. Secondly, the actual scope of the game. The scope of the game (64 players with vehicles,) was very nice. However, the actual maps kind of bored me. Not because they were bad, but because I spent 10 minutes (a bit exaggerated, but still, I spent long times running,) running from one point to the other. Sometimes, I'd run for a long time, then get sniped by a random guy hiding somewhere. That is what made me quit. It's not that the map was too big (I LOVE big maps when does right,) it's just that they weren't designed in the best ways. When we get Battlefield 6, I hope they improve the gunplay, (make it as smooth as Battlefield V,) and improve the maps and scope. (Make sure I'm not running for minutes on end which bores me to death, and raise the player count with better maps.) Thanks for reading. [link] [comments]

[BF4]"Lost connection to session" cant join any server, help? Posted: 24 May 2020 01:37 AM PDT Hey there BF! For about 3 months, I was unable to join any server in BF4. I would get to the black loading screen, and it would go back to the menu stating "You have lost connection to session". I was only able to get into the occasional dead server, nothing populated. What I have tried: -BOUGHT A WHOLE NEW FUCKING PC -Disabling Origin In-Game -Repairing game -Reinstalling -Running BF4 + Origin as Admin -Reinstalling PunkBuster, DX12, C++ Redists -Port Forwarded the two ports required to stay open -Launched both from origin and from Battlelog (Launching from Battlelog just results in loading screen "crash" where game just shuts off.) -Enable UnPnP and disabled it -Updated Router firmware -Restarting PC -Killing Origin and relaunching -Disabled Cloud Saves -Running Origin Cleanup -Launching BF4 straight from the .exe in the root folder -Speedtest and connection test wifi, zero issues -Run compatibility mode for Windows 7/8 -Turned off Windows Game Mode -Changed DNS settings to Google Public DNS -Ports for BF4 forced open for both TCP/UDP in router -Flushed DNS settings *Eventually* Putting my PC in the "DMZ" in my router worked for a week but now we are back to the same thing. I love this game and love playing, does anyone have any ideas? [link] [comments]
[BF4] Incredibly low graphics and framerates for BF4 and BF3 on Xbox One. Posted: 23 May 2020 08:38 PM PDT I just got BF4 and BF3 on my Xbox. However, both of them look god awful with plenty of graphical bugs, a very low framerate, a really bad rendering distance, and an overall very low resolution(or whatever you call it). I don't care about graphics in video games at all normally but at this point it was affecting gameplay. From what I've seen, I feel like it should look much better than what it is. Is there anything I can do about it? [link] [comments]
