[Other] Make Battlefield 3 Free to Play

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 05:36 AM PDT

With the disappointing launch of Battlefield V combined with the news that its support will be wrapped up, it would be awesome to see Battlefield 3 become free to play. Regardless of how good BF3 was, the 9 year old game is arguably not worth the $20 (USD) price tag due to its lack of players in most regions. The revival of this game could hopefully bring some positivity back to the franchise and encourage people to stay at home :).

Battlefield 6 needs to be great at launch...[BFV]

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 10:44 PM PDT

...or it's probably over. That's it. No more Battlefield. That's a scary thought. The series has been in trouble for awhile, but now more people are jumping ship than ever before.

Next game has to launch in a similar quality to other contemporary, polished AAA shooters like COD. Meaning, it feels like a finished game, runs well, little to no glitches. Just all around feels polished. That should be expected of any AAA title.

The community's patience is up. No more of this releasing of unfinished/unpolished games. It's ridiculous. You're not an indie studio.

I hate imagining the series coming to an end. It has so much going for it, just the wrong people in charge. It's so frustrating and makes me really sad. I dont want to see Battlefield ending up like Medal of Honor.

That being said, there is part of me that is optimistic. Maybe Battlefiled had to get its ass kicked for them to realize they need to take a long look in the mirror. They have gotten way to comfortable with the idea of, "Oh, it'll get fixed eventually. Then the game will be good. Our fans are loyal. They'll stick around."

Well, I'm not too sure about that anymore.

So yeah, a few keys to success for the next game. I've heard several of these come up repeatedly in the community.

    • Launch as a polished/finished game.

    • Better communication between devs and community.

    • Take place in modern times

    • Go for dark, realistic, gritty feel. It worked great for Battlefield 1 and then again recently with Modern Warefare. Look at they hype around that game just because of its realistic feel in certain parts. Grittiness sells.

    • Possibly, drop single player. I'd prefer there be a single player campaign, but Dice cant seem to handle the workload. Dont waste the development time. They should focus on making the best multiplayer experience possible.

    • No BR

    • Attachment/Upgrade system like BF4

    • Commander like BF2

    • Large maps that have varied terrain and buildings. Not just open, flat maps, where almost every objective looks like the same place.

    • Use the whole map. Space objectives all over. Not just a cluster of them within quick, running distance.

    • Plenty of varied vehicles on the maps.

    • Throw in a community favorite BF2 map as one of the launch maps. Add a few more from BF2 or another fan favorite like BC2 of BF4 in DLC. I think a BF2 map in the base game would be a smart move just because it would definitely attract some older players who have given up on the franchise. A lot of people cant resist nastalgia. On the other hand, most new players will have zero idea it's a remake. Most people know nothing about BF2. All they will know is that it's a very well designed map.

    • Make a launch map that's a very well known place in the United States. Some iconic place in San Fran, NY, Vegas, LA, Hollywood. Recreate it almost exactly. Give youtubers a reason to make videos with side by side comparisons of the two. Make people go, "Wow, that's exactly like real life. It's amazing! What an amazing job. They got every little detail!" I just think it'll add to the hype. Everybody was talking about Piccadilly in Modern Warefare before it released. That kind of stuff sells. The US is a huge market. Choose a famous US location and it could create some extra interest.

    • Nightime variations of maps.

    • Get rid of being so blinded by sunlight when looking out windows.

    • Get rid of the automatic spotting.

    • Keep the new location spotting instead of old enemy spotting.

    • Keep squad revive.

    • Slightly larger squads

    • Fortifications can stay but need to be expanded upon.

    • Keep gunplay and movement pretty much as is. Leaning, crouch running, and aiming all feel great.

    • Running speed is great in BF5 but leads to too many players constantly running around like crazy. It looks a little ridiculous and turns off many players who want to play the game a bit more tactically (veteran players in the community). But then, it turns away a lot of new players if movement is sluggish. My idea for fixing this would be bringing back a stamina bar, but you never are forced to stop running. Basically, the first 30% of the stamina bar is running at the speed of BF5. The next 70% drops to the speed of say BF3. After the last 70% drops to zero, you can continue to run at that speed, but your weapon's accuracy is dropped by 35%. Your character will start breathing heavily and the stamina bar will flash red until you stop running for a few seconds.

    • Focus on how to enforce squad cooperation. If you dont want to play in a squad, dont join one. If you do, it should be enforced or rewarded a little more. Maybe make it so you can only spawn on your squad if there are two members within a certain distance of eachother, idk.

I just think this would be cool...

    • When squad members run up to heal a downed squad mate, there is a prompt that gives the option to drag to cover.

    • Maybe add some NPCs on your team's base during conquest. They give minimal to no xp if killed by the enemy and just add to the atmosphere. They could be running supplies, repairing vehicles, talking to eachother, tending to a wounded/dying soldier, working the runway, etc.

This game still kicks ass [BF4]

Just look at that, explosion created a small crater, and water filled it, and not just randomly filled, but it looks exactly like the waves filled it.

BTW somehow now this game feels more alive, during this exact match I saw a guy on attack boat, who used it simply to get from one point to another. My point is that it was a new player, cuz nobody having BF experience would do that.

[BF1] Why can I only find servers with either Vanilla or They Shall not Pass maps? Where are the Mixed Maps servers?

    Battlefield 1 DLC servers (PC) {EU} [2020]

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 08:21 AM PDT

Does Battlefield 1 have many DLC servers running in 2020? I am only interested in Conquest and Operations nothing else. I play on PC, in the EU. I know the game will have vanilla servers going but I am asking specifically about DLC. I am trying to decide whether to buy the base or premium version for PC (previously played on PS4).

    [BF5] Battlefield 5 isn’t a bad game...

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 06:19 AM PDT

    Battlefield 5 isn't bad...

I really don't understand all the hate for BF5. The moments I have with my friends are great. Tons of great teamwork moments I'll remember for a long time. The maps are set up for big moments (maybe not all of them). The guns feel great. Maybe it's not the most accurate historically but the game is tons of fun. Alot if not all the bugs are gone now. Just help me understand

[Question] [BF4] Which battlefield standard edition to buy

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 09:24 AM PDT

Hi guys,i am new to this sub and also generally new to the BF genre.I have few questions regarding my purchase : 1.In terms of player count (including DLC maps) which one is more populated. And in which can i find a game easier. 2.In terms of gameplay which one has more action and which one can be played longer without getting bored 3.Are Revolution and Deluxe editions worth it.(Because i believe there are less people playing on Dlc maps) 4.In general are these games worth it.Because they're generally too expensive in my country for a Bf4:7years old/Bf1:4years old game.

Any suggestions and help is much appreciated! Sorry for the long text😀

    Hi,

As you can see by the title, this is the error I'm having. I've tried restarting my router, closing down anything that may be using the network on my PC, opening the ports via the windows firewall and nothing still.

    [Other] Anything close to BF3/BF4?

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 07:51 AM PDT

Any alternatives right now to BF4?

I hate battle royales, i don't like CoD that much, i'm not into CS:Go, i just would like something fun to play just like BF3 and BF4 were. I got BF1 when it came out and i still regret spending 42 euro on that abomination of a game. BF5 looks cool but is not my thing. A new BF is not on schedule yet from what i know. I had big hopes for WW3 but turned out not to be great as expected.

I used to play conquest and most of all, rush (god i miss that mode) and i really miss all that.

    Posted: 25 Apr 2020 03:59 AM PDT

Our platoon [ICE] is looking for another platoon who is interested in some friendly skirmishes versus each other on community servers. 32 [ICE] vs 32 of your guys for 4 or 5 matches of breakthrough and conquest. Normally we hold these events on Friday at 8 EST but we can talk specifics later. Hit me up if you're interested.

[Other] Battlefield 1861 (This isn't a serious suggestion I'm just being creative.)

    Posted: 24 Apr 2020 07:32 PM PDT

I've thought a lot about a Battlefield game set during the American Civil War (or any other similar war).

I've come up with a few design details that I think would make the game fun to play, but I'm not seriously proposing that DICE make this game so please hold your downvotes.

I believe the maps should follow a donut shaped design philosophy. In the middle of the map there would be a "no mans land" where two line formations made up of AI soldiers fight each other. The 64 players would fight over flags that surround the central battle. The players would represent each army's light infantry, scouts, cavalry, snipers etc that would be fighting on the flanks and behind enemy lines.

As the match went on and one side got more points by capturing the objectives their side would start winning the line battle in the middle of the map.

    The classes:

    • Light Infantry - The light infantry would specialize in melee combat. They would be equipped with the commonly used rifled muskets of the era with a bayonet and a hatchet. The hatchet would have the highest DPS of any weapon in the game (think BFV katana).
    • Sappers - The sappers would be the only class that had access to explosives. They would use shotguns as a primary weapon.
    • Dismounted Cavalry - The dismounted cavalry would have access to the lever action rifles of the era. They would also have sabers that would be a one hit kill, but they would strike a lot slower than the light infantry's hatchet.
    • Sharpshooters - The sharpshooters would have access to rifles with telescopic sights.

Classes that don't have a melee weapon would only be able to melee attack with their weapon or fists which would do a lot less damage.

What do you think? Would you play this game as a Battlefield spin off or as a totally new IP?

    Edit: fixed some typos
