[Other] The next Battlefield game should be about Private Military Companies - An idea.

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 07:11 AM PST

The next Battlefield game should be about Private Military Companies.

This is something that I have given much thought to, though I won't claim that it is a flawless proposal. I am always receptive to recommendations and constructive criticism.

TL;DR a modern setting featuring Private Military Companies would likely tick all of DICE and playerbase boxes.

Pros of Private Military Companies being fundamental to the next Battlefield:

    - Customisation potential.

PMCs feature extensive equipment at their disposal. Because they are, in large part, not reliant on governments for their outfitting, there are no glaring issues with authenticity that persevere throughout other Battlefield games. This was the case with the entire Russian assault roster running M16A4s in Battlefield 3, or with the German medics of Battlefield V totting Thompsons. Unlike military equipment of the state, which often plunges unsuccessful contestants for contracts into the abyss, a PMC setting could justify the appearance of rare or experimental weapons, such as the G11, the OICW and XM8 family of weapons.

For the same reason, player characters could feature a variety of customisation, from tacticool to whacky, without authenticity issues as has been the case in Battlefield V with Brits clad in American clothing, or Japanese wearing German scorched outfits. Military equipment from the Cold War era all the way to modern combat zones could feature.

For the same reason, the player characters could be of any ethnicity and sex without authenticity issues. I have no doubts that modern private military companies are generally dominated by men, but I doubt they are less accepting of women than the militaries of World War 1 and 2. Furthermore, advanced technology could justify the inclusion of prosthetics, the presence of which generated backlash against Battlefield V.

For the same reason we could see a reintroduction of Battlefield Hardline's money based unlock system. It seems to me that it was seen favourably by the player base, giving us autonomy over choosing how our character progresses based on what we individually see as cool. I suppose we have the same in Battlefield V with company coin.

Overall, this would make good on DICE commitment to diverse representation within the game without facilitating enormous public backlash, propagators of which could plausibly claim to be angry out of commitment to authenticity, as was the case in Battlefield V.

    - Areas of operations

Battlefield 1 and V, due to their setting, are limited in the areas of operations that can be legitimately included in the game. Modern Battlefield games dealing with warfare concerning alternative or made-up scenarios do not have that constraint. A PMC focused Battlefield could make anywhere in the world a legitimate combat zone. Military installations in Antarctica? Check. Jungles of South America? Check. On the other hand, it may be bizarre to see two mercenary groups duking it out in, say, Berlin or New York. More bizarre than a massive shootouts in urban centres in Battlefield Hardline? I'd say not.

    - Single player campaign

We've all seen the recent Call of Duty make a splash with their single player experience. Boots on the ground, brutal, no-punches-pulled action which depicted civilian suffering, proliferation of war crimes, terrorism et cetera. As a matter of personal opinion, it was exactly the perfect Call of Duty single player experience.

A PMC Battlefield could give us something very similar. Governments across the world already employ private military companies for various roles; supporting existing troops, as well as dirty work with plausible deniability. A campaign set from a perspective of a private military contractor could allow the player to experience numerous scenarios, both more and less shocking, without enormous sacrifices in authenticity.

Limitations of PMC focused Battlefield game:

    A) Access to heavy land, water and air vehicles, and advanced military technology

This is probably the biggest issue which could really stall a PMC focused battlefield. Let's be honest, modern day PMCs do not go around flying jets or driving tanks. Aside from Hotwire, I doubt many people would say that the vehicular gameplay of Battlefield Hardline was their favourite part of the game; and a PMC focused battlefield could risk difficulty in justifying the use of the rocking military equipment that we are so fond of.

    Overcoming the limitations:

    A) World building efforts with a healthy creative touch

Here's my idea. It's early 21st century. A financial crisis rocked the Earth. As nations turn inwards and go to desperate lengths to cut costs whilst they fix their economy, the chaos of economic unrest resulted in growth of private military companies, with soldiers of fortune seeking a way to find reprieve. Governments, eager to reduce spending, as well as turning inwards in the world stage to focus on their own affairs, heartily employ mercenary groups to wage their wars for them. This is cheaper than maintaining a standing army, and allows for plausible deniability, whilst avoiding political scandals at home over loss of life. To that end, the most competitive PMCs would gain access to increasingly advanced military technology, vehicles included, as governments seek to make money by offering military training courses and sell their equipment to stabilise their economies. Sounds bizarre? Don't forget that Pepsi at one point boasted an enormous navy, after sealing a contract with USSR and accepting payment in the form of naval vessels.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk

[BFV] Battlefield V is still worth it ?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 05:00 AM PST

So, I've played battlefield 4 a long time ago and I loved the multiplayer. It was a great experience and I want to feel it again (or at least something close to it). The BFV multiplayer is close to what BF4 was? Do you think it will still be alive long enough?

    [BFV] Other fronts

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 08:00 AM PST

With DICE wanting to focus on the more obscure parts of WW2, how would we feel about:

    - The Anglo-Soviet Invasion of Iran

    - The German-Finnish Lapland War

    - Soviet Invasion Of Manchuria

    - Soviet Battles In Korea

    - The Anglo-Iraqi War

    - The East African Front

    - The Kokoda Trail

Just throwing idea's out there. Obviously I'd rather have the Eastern Front first, just wondering what we all think.

[BFV] I need help with BFV and BF1

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 07:32 AM PST

So I have a RTX 2060 combined with a Ryzen 1500X and 8x2 Ram And when playing battlefield 1 and battlefield V fps are not that great, around 100, but I need 144 since I own a 144hz monitor. I already tried to lower the settings, in both games, but the fps still the same, always on 90-100. So since it doesn't go up I play it at high. I need some help on what to do so I can get more fps even when lowering the video settings. In both games I have 200 maximum fps limiter setting, no gpu restrictions. Already tried DX12 on and off. Does someone know what can i do?

    [Question] Question about Year-2 Edition

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 02:13 AM PST

It says you unlock 13 primary weapons as well as a number of skins and other Chapter Rewards. I've always liked the grind of battlefield games and I'm wondering if these 13 are a significant number of weapons, seeming as BF1 only had a handful of weapons? Also is there any way to unlock these chapter rewards now or were they time sensitive? Are the weapons part of this? Is the year two version worth it compared to the regular?

[BF4] Is this currently the most active BF game right now?

    Posted: 29 Nov 2019 02:08 AM PST

Which one would I have a better time with if I were to find servers that aren't completely isolated? I'm a BF4 veteran, but I am also debating getting either 1 or V due to my love for the historical setting featured in these two. However, I'm deciding between getting either one of those or BF4 premium, depending on which one is more popular.

[BFV] Camping tanks a problem? Use AT Rifles. 1. Assist assaults in taking out tanks. 2. Take out damaged tanks running to repair. 3. Long range hit tanks in safe positions to damage them and parts forcing them to move slowly away and become vulnerable to your team.

    [BFV] Can't do it anymore.

You've probably gotten a lot of these but it's been maybe 4+ years since I ever wrote one of these but I can't play BFV no more. Due to the game, partially my performance and my eyesight and overall taste.

I'm very good at FPS games, not 360 one scoper or 30 kill streaks but good enough to kill a few people before I die. Heck I've done great in Battlefield 1, Battlefield 3, 4, Hardline and the classic BF games but with this game, I just get brutally butchered no matter what I do. It's so hard to see in the game, especially with me being partially colorblind, it's almost impossible unlike the other games.

And another thing not throwing the SJW thing around since people get sick of it but the game just throws me off due to the female warrior aspect, I mean I'd get it if the bases were being raided and women had to take up arms to defend themselves or if they were part of nations that had women in combat roles but not running around in full gear with male comrades. Also with the guns? Like, why? That irks me, why do both sides get all the guns, they shouldn't be the same in my opinion - it throws off the whole historical accuracy for me and the meta.

    TLDR:
    1. I'm a noob that's colorblind and upset that I get butchered before I can even really get better.

    1. The weapons irk me due to both sides getting access to all of the weapons in game.

    2. Women should only be in the game if they were in combat units within the nations that used them.

    3. (Not mentioned above) The TTK is SOOO fucked up because it's like every other month they're tweaking it and have been since launch.

[BFV] I don't like the hud

    Posted: 28 Nov 2019 05:52 PM PST

Sorry, if it's sounds like I'm nitpicking. What I really liked about Battlefield, was the blue and red hud from. Everything was so colorful? It felt so awesome when getting a kill, and it felt so lively.

Battlefield 1 and V just feels very bland in comparision. Just super boring to look at, and I feel nothing when I get a kill or a revive.
