[BF:Vietnam] The story of team {G*E*R} which dominated the public 1.20 scene by a huge margin back then, winning 16/16 clan wars 4-0, not loosing a single map in until disbanded

    Hi!

    (TL:DR at the end)

I've been playing Battlefield series since 2005 and would like to share the story of my team in BF:Vietnam back then. Maybe some of you veterans saw us on the "Sexy" servers back then, played on our own {G*E*R} server, or maybe somebody here even was on a team that faced us in a clanwar?

I used to go by the name {G*E*R} FieseL, and this is our story.

I joined the team around 2005 or 2006. A friend from school (aka Ricky) introduced me to the game and made me hang out with them in Ventrilo. 5-10 people from the team were present everyday and we had that teamwork vibe going stronger and stronger. Dedicated pilots, roles and all that. F4 was banned on our server for obvious balance reasons. Keeping the tactics growing, the team found itself winning against all teams playing on public servers in wars we hosted on our server.

When we began noticing this, we raised our requirements for the competitive team players. We started putting the most active and best performing players in a specific clan war squad, and later added a reserve squad for people who where almost as good but were not considered the best players in their specific role. We had a rank system, in which you had to play 2 hours a day on average to keep your rank at the end of a month, otherwise you would be demoted. Promotions could be given by the leaders for excellent performance or outstanding activity and teamplay. Participating in a clanwar that resulted in a win was an instant promotion.

We started training once or sometimes twice a week, with certain scenarios of one team holding specific Flags, while the other team had the task to retake. We trained to approach certain flags from multiple angles with timings, and had a thread on our forum in which EVERY possible spawn point of EVERY flag on EVERY map in the competitive pool was mapped. So if 2 or 3 people attacked a flag, everyone knew if he had to watch for spawn 1-3, 4-6 or 7-9. in case of an enemy respawning to contest our attack. They basically respawned and got instantly headshotted since every possible spawn was covered by at least 1 player.

After tearing through opponent after opponent, the war requests began to become less. People were afraid of us and even 3-4 players of our team on a public server were able to secure a win most of the time.

We had a signature strat on Reclaiming Hue, where we would just jump of the bridge at the USA spawn, swim through the water, go near the huge wall as engineer. Place anti.tank mine on the ground. Place your mortar on it. Use the bounce from the explosion to be kicked over the wall, and cap all their CP from behind while they still guard the bridge with the whole team. LeL.

At some point some F2P MMO invaded the team and some of the seasoned CW players were doing less and less in terms of daily training and therefore were demoted. Including me. We still played together with the rest of the team casually tho, but in the end me and 3 or 4 others quit because we didn't think we could invest the time anymore to keep up to the standard that the team had set before. Also, the last clanwar we played was in the past already, after everyone facing us had got their beating. There was literally nobody left to face and it reduced many players ambition to keep playing actively.

There was this single clanwar towards the end of our reign which was different. Our leader (Viper) didn't include this one on our homepage since the team we played (do not remember the name, but they were french) recruited players from ProLogic in order to be the first team to beat us. ProLogic used to be somewhat leading in BF Esport at that time if I remember correctly (maybe they still are?) but they played on a newer patch (1.21).

I remember the names ProLogic G-Thing and GäddaN, but not sure if they were the ones stealth recruited to beat us.

However, their plan backfired, they got their ass handed 4-0 in maps even with those pro players who even downpatched to 1.20 in order to rip us. I think one of them even disconnected during the game after being accused of being random-recruited for the war. Not sure tho. It was the most challenging war we played, with those players purely outaiming us in 1v1 and we really had to show our best teamplay in order to overcome this. It was a blast.

In the end, the team quietly disbanded with a small announcement on our HP since there was nobody left to face.

Why did we not play in ESL? Most of our war players were younger than 16, so they could not reigster on ESL. I think I quit the game when I was 15 or 16 years old.

After Xfire died, I never saw one of my old mates again. I had a frag video on youtube but it was removed after BF:V (5) was released since the title of my video containing BF:V could have been misleading.

Clan war history can be found here https://web.archive.org/web/20081211021530/http://bfv-ger.npage.de/clanwars_34526820.html

TL:DR: Ace team beating everyone, in one of our last wars the enemy teaam recuited pro players from a top ESL team but still got rekt. We disbanded shortly after.
