    [Other] Hardline on PC

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 07:00 AM PST

I just got Origin's subscription service and begun the grind on BF4, but I never really got to sink my teeth into Hardline. Is there a player base for PC? How much suffering would a new player go through?

[BFL] Time to revive Hardline or Bad Company as fast TTK competitive shooters sub franchises?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 05:42 AM PST

So hear my out even if this is going to be a long post, I think that the franchise is currently in need of a discussion what it actually is. Is it a casual action sandbox or a fast paced tactical shooter? I think that BF1 and BFV pre 5.2 are two extremely different games and that DICE somewhat took BFV closer to BF1 with 5.2. So much that it should be different games?

Bf 1 had gunplay with random elements like suppression and random bullet spread, behemoths, mortars, horses, snap aim, 3D- spotting and sweet spot snipers, all made for a game that easy to pick up and have fun with but that frustrated many veterans who thought that Battlefield turned in to a shooting gallery with grenades that rained everywhere. None can contest that game was a huge success as it was also really well produced and had a really coherent style to it. I would say that it worked very well on console up to the point that I actually had a lot of friends on PC who preferred to play BF1 on console over PC.

Enter BFV. After such a success I have to admit of being surprised that DICE decided to announce such clear break with the BF1s formula. The infamous reveal trailer seemed to continue the casual game of BF1 but the community was shortly assured that this was something along the wishes the community have had for a long time. "Skill" based gunplay, attrition and a bigger focus on playing the game instead of relying on the hud was the new formula. The was given a live service with free maps and guns and was thereby focusing on selling skins to make up for the lost premium revenue.

Apart from the rushed feel the game has with net code issues, lack of content and non existent team balancing, the gameplay criticism focused on visibility issues and camping behaviours there the removal of 3D spotting and fast TTK naturally brought to the game. Most of this community loved the gunplay despite all of the games other short comings.

Now I wasn't surprised when DICE announced that they some churn from players who had bad experience with engament ranges. I can easily admit that I am an extremely average console player and that I found it hard to react and return fire when the game was released sitting in my sofa 2-3 meters from the tv. Most of my friends from BF1 didn't even buy BFV after the beta feeling that the drift from BFV was to strong.

I am probably my not the only one who bought premium for every other game in the franchise while paying nothing more in this game. I am already spending like 80 euros less in this game then I did in BF1942, BF2, BF4 and BF1. That leaves a lot of gaps in sales that needs to be filled with something else.

I am totally aware of the feelings in these subs about 5.2 and DICEs move but I totally understand what they are seeing in their statics. They are trusting that they will keep enough of the core community either way and the reality is that this games needs its casual players if t's going to survive with the live service model. So far I am pretty certain that all that they have done is to piss a lot of veterans off without attracting any new players. I think that the final nail in the coffin for the pre 5.2 gameplay was the announcement from EA that next BF title is in 2021.

So what should have been done? I would have liked BFV to get another year of development and that BF2018 should have been pretty much everything that BFV was promised to be, a high skill based shooter where you use your senses and not the HUD. This game could use one of the earlier sub franchises like Bad company or Hardline. If this game was a multiplayer only with an emphasis on 32 vs 32 players in a modern setting production time would easily been enough between BF1 and this. Especially if it was given to DICE LA or another studio. Make it focus less on elites, behemoths, planes and heavy vehicles and more on fast TTK gun play and competitive team play. I think that both the now slumbering incursions from BF1 and the 5v5 proposed in BFV really have something interesting going for it and would fit perfectly in this game.

Then BFV could have been much more of a bombastic continuation of BF1 that it deserved to be with some extra production time going into it. In this game the sandbox fun and Battlefield moments always take proceedings over realism or "fair competition" which means that a noob will still have a chance going up against at a BF veteran. The squad is the focus and together you take down hurdles with operations being the prime game mode. This game could have a profitable live service model and should truly be "#everyonesbattlefield." Well, that what I dream about at least.

TLDR: why not make BF Hardline or Bad Company fast TTK competitive shooters as it's almost impossible to please everyone like DICE tried with BFV.

[BFV] What the fuck has this game come to?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2020 01:30 AM PST

Couple of notes here, first of all, for weather. Why is it one way? As an AA, if I'm in say Delta on panzerstorm, and fog rolls in, why can the planes see me, but I can't see them? What the hell?

Also, speaking of. I ended a pilot's streak, and kept shooting him down as he tried to take out our tanks, and shortly afterwards got completely booted offline. Lagged out, disconnected from PSN, everything. A full DDoS. To whoever it was that did that, first of all, thank you for the compliment, it just means I did a good job, but it also means you're an ABSOLUTE COWARD.

[QUESTION] Has Battlefield ever had authenic recoil direction?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:37 PM PST

By authentic I dont mean 1 to 1 to real life, i mean the general direction 1 weapon might pull when fired. So for example in real life weapons on the AK platform pull up and slightly to the right because of its lopsided operating system. I was wondering if there was ever a time in Battlefield new or old where they considered that kind of thing? I know the new Modern Warfare used ex military to create their guns in an authentic way from the way the recoil kicks to the way they are reloaded and to the way you move around with them. Now I'm sure Battlefid hasn't really had military consultants like the new cod where they have ex military critiquing the way the guns work in game, but I am aware that with BF3 they went to military exercises to record some of the sounds for that game. And I know in BF1 the dev's actually held the guns and did what they felt was accurate, but again the question arises was there ever any military consultants to say if it was actually correct to the way they might have been trained to do things?
